Anchorage control
A cantilever spring as shown above can be used to provide maximum to absolute anchorage for the maxillary first molar as shown above.
An optimum range to aim for should be around 2400 g.mm. In any situation the optimum moment should not be below 1600 g.mm. The moment generated by cantilever depends upon the type of wire ( SS vs Beta- Ti) , size & the activation.
In the clinical case above, the anchorage was preserved by the cantilever spring by adding adequate activation. The molar infact tipped back. 100% anchorage was maintained and complete canine retraction was done. Note: no headgear , class II elastics or TPA was used.
